PATH2ZERO showcases early findings on transport decarbonisation at the Green Urbanism 2025 Conference
From 25–27 November, Sapienza University of Rome hosted the ninth Green Urbanism International Conference, bringing together experts from across Europe and beyond to explore how cities can adapt to climate change, embrace new technologies, and shape more sustainable urban futures.
The event highlighted advances in areas such as resilient urban design, energy efficiency, nature-based solutions, sustainable mobility, and climate-adapted infrastructure.
In this dynamic setting, Rosa Picón García, researcher at the Transport Research Centre (TRANSyT), represented PATH2ZERO with the presentation “Towards Sustainable Transport: A Comparative Analysis of European National Decarbonisation Strategies”. The work, developed within PATH2ZERO in collaboration with colleagues from TOI and the University of Leeds, builds on a comparative case study previously accepted for the 2026 TRA Conference.
Rosa’s contribution introduced the PATH2ZERO project and shared preliminary findings from an analysis of road transport decarbonisation efforts in Spain, Norway, and the United Kingdom. The study examines the uptake of alternative fuels across buses, light-duty vehicles (LDVs) and heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), offering an early look at the countries’ ambition levels, progress, and common challenges. These initial insights point to potential opportunities for knowledge transfer and for shaping more effective strategies across different European contexts.
PATH2ZERO’s participation in the Green Urbanism 9th Edition served as a valuable platform to enhance international knowledge exchange, increase visibility for the project, and strengthen collaboration on accelerating transport decarbonisation in line with Europe’s climate objectives.
